Doris Makes Ireland Team But McCarthy Omitted
Returning head coach Andy Farrell has included captain Doris in his Ireland roster for the autumn internationals, however Joe McCarthy has been excluded.
The captain, who has not played since having a shoulder operation in early May, recently returned to provincial training, though his fitness is uncertain whether he will be fit to face New Zealand in Chicago on November 1.
Lock Joe McCarthy, however, did not make the cut after not recovering from the foot injury he sustained during the first British and Irish Lions match against Australia in the summer.
Northern province player Cormac Izuchukwu and Munster wing Nash also miss out due to injury, while full-back Keenan had already been ruled out after having hip surgery following the summer tour.
Leinster forward McCarthy - the brother of Joe - is the only uncapped member in the 34-man group, however the Irish Rugby Football Union says uncapped provincial pair Edwin Edogbo and Brian Gleeson and previously capped Connacht wing Shayne Bolton will travel to the US as "backup".
After playing the New Zealand at Soldier Field in a repeat of their 2016 encounter, the team will play the Brave Blossoms, Australia and world title holders the Springboks in the Irish capital.
"There's an exciting look to the squad and it's a chance for the more experienced members and for the newcomers on the recent tour to the Lelos and the Lobos," said the coach, back to Ireland duty after taking a sabbatical to lead the British and Irish Lions to the southern hemisphere.
In a mostly familiar-looking squad, the Dublin club's Prendergast and Munster's Jack Crowley will again compete for the starting number 10 position. The number 10 jersey is remains up for grabs, as the two players poised to face off for the first time in Saturday's URC game at Croke Park.
Frawley is the third fly-half chosen as the coach deciding not to selecting the province's Harry Byrne.
At scrum-half, the Ireland boss has selected Lions tourist Gibson-Park and Casey, who captained Ireland to the summer Test wins over the Lelos and the Lobos. There is also a recall for Connacht's Blade, chosen to club-mate Ben Murphy.
Henshaw, Bundee Aki, Ringrose and McCloskey form an experienced group of centre options. Osborne is a further choice in the midfield, but the youngster is also a frontrunner to cover for the full-back at full-back.
Outside backs Lowe, Mack Hansen, O'Brien and Jacob Stockdale are included. The winger shone on his national team debut during the summer with a brace each in the victories over the Lelos and Portugal.
Paddy McCarthy is the only new name in the Ireland pack. The front rower has been in a couple of his province's URC United Rugby Championship games so far and played in Ireland A's loss by the English in the English city earlier this year.
McCarthy was included in interim boss O'Connell's summer squad, yet did not receive a international appearance.
Southern province second row Ahern, who earned his debut appearances in those Tests, is retained, and veteran Ulster lock Henderson is back after sitting out the summer matches.
Jack Conan, who played in each of the Lions matches during the tour, is poised to deputise for the captain if the captain fails to recover fitness soon enough to play New Zealand.
The national team will meet in the capital on Monday before flying to the US on Tuesday.
