Labuschagne Left Out from Australia's ODI Squad to Face Team India

The Australian selectors have left out Labuschagne from Australia's three-game ODI series versus India, as high-performing Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw getting a unexpected call-up.

Performance Issues Result in Exclusion

Labuschagne has been omitted from the one-day international team after managing only a single run in each of his two innings during the recent series against South Africa in August. He has a best innings of forty-seven in his previous ten ODI innings.

Labuschagne has featured in 68 ODIs and accumulated 1,871 runs at an average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now focus on earning a Test team comeback in time for the Ashes beginning in Perth on November 21.

Surprise Inclusion and Team Updates

There have been indications of a return to form with a score of 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw scored a century for the Bulls in the identical match against Tasmania.

The left-hander may to make his first white-ball appearance in the upcoming series against India after previously being selected in an ODI squad in 2022.

The left-hander has played 14 Tests with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also seeking a return to the Test team as Australia look for a fix to their batting top-order problems.

Pace Additions and Fitness News

Fast bowler Mitchell Starc returns for the ODI series against India after taking a break since excelling for Australia in the whitewash of West Indies in July.

Big Bash star Mitch Owen could make his ODI debut after suffering a concussion in the lead up to Australia’s previous 50-over series against South Africa.

Skipper Pat Cummins continues to be absent as he works to regain fitness from a spinal issue by the time to captain Australia in the opening Test of the Ashes in November.

Team Announcement Approach and Fixtures

Australia have named a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the Ashes on the horizon, although Glenn Maxwell will miss all of the five-game T20 series due to a wrist injury sustained in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will skipper both the ODI and T20 teams after smashing a century in the last match against New Zealand to clinch a 2-0 series win last week.

“We have named a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be player management through the later stages of the series as players get ready for the cricket season through domestic first-class matches,” Australia chair of selectors George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an important period in the preparation for the T20 World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously prepare specific players for the Test matches ahead.”

Australia’s three-match ODI series against India begins on 19 October in Perth, before the opponents play five T20 internationals from October 29.
